Barry Farm Recreation Center: Pool Ribbon Cutting

Mayor Gray, in conjunction with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Department of General Services, along with partners and stakeholders, will host a ribbon cutting for community residents at the new Recreation Center in Barry Farm. The event will mark the opening of the aquatics facility, and construction will continue on the rest of the Recreation Center, which is anticipated to be open to the public starting in the spring of 2015.

SeVerna on K Ribbon Cutting

Mayor Gray, along with the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, invite residents and community stakeholders to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the SeVerna on K, the latest New Communities project. Developed by Mission First, the SeVerna on K is a top quality mixed-income development located within walking distance of the District’s landmark Union Station. Of the 133 total units, 101 are affordable, and 48 reserved for former residents of Temple Courts and Golden Rule Center. The SeVerna on K is now leasing.

DC SCORES Poetry Slam

DC SCORES will be hosting its annual Poetry Slam for the “East Side” on Thursday, December 4th in Lincoln Heights. It is sure to be a fun and engaging evening full of student performances! DC SCORES is a New Communities human capital grantee that offers programming citywide, including several schools serving Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings residents.

Barry Farm Resident Council Meeting

The monthly Resident Council Meeting will feature a discussion led by DC Housing Authority staff on lease compliance, and what residents need to know.

Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellings Community Meeting

The monthly New Communities meeting for Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings will feature a development update on the 5201 Hayes Street project. Formerly a trash-transfer facility, the site was acquired by the city in 2008 for redevelopment as part of the New Communities Initiative. In September, the City Council approved the surplus and disposition of the property for redevelopment as a 150 unit affordable housing apartment complex.

DC SCORES Fall Frenzy

DC SCORES will be putting on their annual Fall Frenzy event this Saturday where more than 800 students from across the city will compete in a round-robin soccer tournament while rotating between activities such as face-painting, fitness booths, relay races, a creative expression table, and more! DC SCORES is one of the New Communities Initiative’s human capital partners, working in several schools serving Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings. You can also sign up to VOLUNTEER!

Zoning Commission Meeting on Barry Farm Stage 1 PUD
