The Lincoln Heights neighborhood is bounded to the south by East Capitol Street, and its northern edge (at Hayes Street) is served by Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue. To the west, the neighborhood planning area is bounded by 48th Place, with 57th Street as the eastern boundary.

The Lincoln Heights community is rich with history. The Suburban Gardens was the first and only major amusement park within the District. It was opened in 1921, at a time when African-Americans were refused entry to Glen Echo Park which did not desegregate until 1961.

A historic staple of the neighborhood, the Strand Theatre will undergo redevelopment. The theatre is located at 5131 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue. It was formerly a 600-seat movie house, dance hall and pool room built in 1928.

HD Woodson High School

As part of the New Communities Initiative, the new HD Woodson High School opened in 2011 after its modernization. The school is name in honor of one of the first licensed African-American architect and civic leaders, Howard Dilworth Woodson. Woodson was the developer of Suburban Gardens Amusement Park.

4800 Nannie Helen Burroughs

The Nannie Helen at 4800 opened in July 2013. This 70-unit affordable housing development includes 23 replacement units with a priority for Lincoln Heights residents.

Lincoln Heights

The Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings neighborhoods are located in the northeast quadrant of the District of Columbia, with close proximity to the Anacostia Waterfront, RFK Stadium and the active retail center at Minnesota Avenue and Benning Road. Today, Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings consist of 630 public housing units.
